Our firm sponsored a bowling event for the office last Friday. They catered lunch, and we went bowling during work hours!
I did not want to go at first -being a newbie and not knowing most of my peers (also I didn not want to see "sausage girl" there. Her self-righteous, I am better than you attitude annoys the bananas out of me.)
However, if I learned anything at all from my mentor - it is that you need to put in your face time. You need to do the song and dance in order to eventually stir the boat in the direction you want. I do know that these are things I need to and I must do - and so I went.
It was surprisingly fun. The HR lady gave us drink tickets, and we had chips, salsa and a variety of cookies.
Our team was called the Lucky Strikes (how creative huh? not my idea). We even made shirts for our team using stickers that you iron on (assembled and ironed during Fragomen time in the conference room!). One team was called "SOBs" - stressed out bowlers. I thought that was cool.
We lost and I sucked - but it was okay. I had fun. Nice to be back in an office environment.
And yeah, sausage girl was there...she did not play but watched on the bench all alone with her sausage self.
