4 AM Emergeny Room Trip...I have stones in my gallbladder

This sharp pain on my abdomen woke me up today at 4 AM...an hour before my alam clock was supposed to go off and wake me up. I went to the bathroom, and felt this continued severe pain on my stomach. I thought it was menstrual cramp or Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS). It was so bad that I couldn't even climb back to bed. I laid on the bathroom floor in pain. I started crying, and having cold sweats. My husband woke up and ran to get me Tylenol (which I didnt want to take because I couldn't even sit up). I told him to take me to the Emergency Room.

He drove me to the Anaheim Medical Hospital which is literally 5 minutes from our house. We couldn't find where you are supposed to park, so we left the car and eventually found the emergency room. There were a bunch of people there. They took in my information (insurance, name, basic questions, temperature etc). I told them I was in a lot of pain (and was crying like a baby!). After taking in our information, they asked us to wait in the lobby and they will call us when a doctor is available. We sat in the lobby, I sat on a wheelchair and was in such severe pain that I was crying in the lobby. I was asking them to at least give me something for the pain while I wait for the freaking doctor. 20 minutes passed and we were still sitting in the lobby. I couldn't take it anymore and I asked my husband to take me to another hospital, with an available doctor. I needed one asap.

He drove me to UCI Medical Center in Orange. Within 5 minutes of arriving at this hospital, I was with an RN and within 10 minutes, I was on a hospital bed (Lesson Learned: Don't go to county hospitals, if you have insurance. They are terrible! You will not get the medical care you deserve and pay for!).

Anyways, the doctors at UCI were great! (That's right...doctors! Not one doctor, but two doctors and a nurse for little old me! At the county hospital, they had one doctor for 20 people in the emergency room).

They immediately gave me an IV to help me with the pain, and within an hour of being there - they were able to perform an ultrasound on my stomach and were able to tell me I have several stones in my gallbladder (with one that was quite large). Yup, as if these past few days were not not bad enough...I dented my car, failed the bar, and now I have stones in my gall bladder. Can a girl get a break?

The picture above shows an infected gallbladder with gall stones. Gross, huh?

Anyways, they released me about 7 AM after giving me two bags of pain killers though the IV and prescribed me with 40 tablets of Vicodin. Good thing, the stones did not infect my gallbladder but was informed that these "attacks" could be recurrent, and if infected, could cause serious complications. I need to discuss with my primary physician either how to live with the stones, or if we need to take out my gallbladder.

I went home, called in sick and was knocked out for a few hours. Hopefully, I am well enough to go to work tomorrow. I have so much to do, I do not have time to get sick.

05-21-2008....2 year wedding anniversary

So yesterday was my husband and I's two year wedding anniversary. We were trying to figure out what to do...we kinda wanted to do something special such as going to the Sequoia National Park. I've always wanted to go, ever since I saw this National Geographic Special, but due to our work schedule and this bar exam hurdle...we decided to just hold on.

My dear husband was so sweet and bought me a few little things. We are not buying big gifts because my dog Rascal just caused us over $500 in vet fees for an infection last week and we have to pay for bar review exam fees (again).

Anyways, he got a Wii-Fit so I can use it and exercise. He also got me a set of lounge pants that I told him I liked and my favorite guilty pleasure - an US celebrity magazine.
I didn't even get him anything. I told him he's entitled to 10 love coupons, decide what they are for and cash it in anytime...that made him happy - and thought about the many things he could use the coupons for...

We also went to go eat at Flemings Steak House at Newport Beach. The restaurant is highly rated. We got their "memorable meal" special and received 2 6oz. Filet Mignon, 2 Australian Lobster Tails, 2 Chopped Wedge Salads, Fleming's Potatoes, Sugar Snap Peas, 2 Chocolate Mousse, and a glass of wine for me. The food was definitely excellent. My husband said it was the best filet mignon he's ever had thus far. The service was great. The Lakers was on while we were there and the people from the bar cheered loudly when they won (including my husband who ditched me for a minute or two to check the score!).

If you are ever in need of a good steak or a great lobster - go to this place. I highly recommend it. http://www.flemingssteakhouse.com/

February 2008 CA Bar Passage Rate: 39%

I found out today that my very good friends, Sherry (first attemp) and Corina (2nd attempt). My heart swelled up with happiness for them. I really really really am happy for them. A little envious maybe - but definitely extremely happy. I studied with Sherry throughout the period of bar review. We cried together, stayed up late (or early together), and used the same materials together. I know how determined she is. We've had many heartfelt discussions about our life, about the bar exam, and about all the things we had to go through. We get along well because we think alike....she's a younger version of me. She reminds me of myself.

When I told her I didn't make it...she cried for me. And for the first time since finding out, I cried...with her.

Sherry and Corina are so gracious. They are offering up all their notes, books, and outline - and wanted to give me all they have - so that I can use them for my second attempt at this damn exam. It really helps to have good friends who are supportive. They keep me motivated.

Anyhow, the damn CA Bar February 2008 passing rate was 39% passing rate. Yup, freaking 39%.

Date of Examination: February 2008
Total Number Examined: 4,533
Total Number Passed: 1,797
Total Percent Passed: 39.6%

July 2008 had a 56.1% passing rate.

CA Bar Exam February 2008

Today is not my day because...
1. I went home, drove without paying attention and hit a wall while I was turning left (who does that??!!!). Scratched and dented the right back side of my car door.

2. I failed the bar. Yup. I did.

3. A friend of mine didn't pass. I was absolutely hoping she would as she more than anyone deserve to pass.

Yup - definitely not my day. I am not going to dwell on it. I am going to move on with some of my dignity intact and we will do better next time. The thought of studying again for the July 2008 bar exam makes my stomach upset. I will deal with it tomorrow. Tonight, I will enjoy my sleep because I won't be getting much of it in the next two months!!! This sucks! I will be in hell for the next two months - working full-time and re-reviewing for the bar.

2008 CA Bar Results Come out in 3 hours...

Here it goes again...the soul of the CA bar exam and my law school life follows me, as the results of the CA bar exam for February 2008 is scheduled for release in three freaking hours!

I tried not to think about it, until today. Either way, I am prepared for the results. It has been exactly one year since I graduated from law school. Everything in my life has been on hold...while await for the "this candidate appears on the pass list" prompt on the computer screen. I've held off getting pregnant. I've held off going on vacations. I've held off looking for another job. Every thing and all things were focused on this one goal.

I patiently watched as other people moved on with life - bought houses, got married, had babies, went on trips, while I (and sadly my other half), remained on a pause.

Just breathe, I tell myself. I will try to stay calm, breathe, and take it in one moment at a time.

Bichon Bash 2008 was a success!

The Bichon Bash 2008 last Saturday at Critter's Corner in Encinitas was a success! Normin, Teddy, Rascal and I as well as my parents (to my surprise and appreciation) went to the bash, and had a great time! It was definitely worth the drive to San Diego. The weather was beautiful....there was so much food...there were too many bichons, and we bought so much doggie toys! It was such a great turn-out. I am sure that the event raised a significant amount of money in order to continue and help find homes for bichon frises and other doggies.
Rascal and Teddy had a wonderful time! They enjoyed playing and running around the park with dozens of other doggies that look just like them. It is indeed a rare sight to see dozens of bichons galloping around a park and boy, what a lovely sight that was! There was too much cuteness everywhere. I couldn't stop oohhhing, and aahhhhing, at every single little and big bichon! I am definitely in-love with the breed.

We drove home and had sushi at Laguna afterwards...yummy! It was definitely a relaxing and enjoyable Saturday.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA'S 6TH ANNUAL BICHON BASH

Normin, myself, Teddy, and Rascal are going to the Bichon Frise Bash tomorrow at Encinitas, CA. Sponsored by Bichon Fur Kids Dog Rescue.

It's a picnic at a park in San Diego, and there will be an auction to support the continued rescue of dogs, specifically, Bichon Frises, Maltese, and Poodles, in animal shelters, puppy mills, or owner surrendered - doggies who are in need of a loving home. I'd adopt them all, if I could.

There will be a pot luck, raffle for fabulous prizes, mini-seminars, a Bichon Q&A booth, and an opportunity to pick up lots of grooming supplies, crates, cages and other supplies at donation prices.

There will be lots of Bichon Frises (a perfect Saturday). Starts at 11 and ends at 3. We are leaving OC at 9:30. If interested in joining us - let me know! It should be fun.
